Description: This is Part 2 of Unscripted Breaks Down: The Green Revolution, a three-part series about the socio-economic as well as ecological effects of the Green Revolution on Indian Agriculture. Watch all three parts right here on YouTube. Part 1: youtu.be/qF2xDkphqlY Part 2: youtu.be/fzHGOvX6lkQ Part 3: youtu.be/83iZ68s-9YE The Green Revolution has always been linked with prosperity and growth yet its policies were highly short-sighted. It sought to increase crop yield in the short term without considering the long-term consequences. The cumulative impact of these policies has been alarming rates of cancer, debt, and suicide. The Green Revolution exploited farmers and made them dependent on harmful fertilisers, GMO seeds, and monoculture which has, in turn, led to irreparable damage to the environment and land. 00:00 Intro 01:02 Effects of HYV seeds on soil fertility 02:53 Rampant use of harmful 'chemical' fertilizers 04:21 Chemical fertilizers polluted Punjab's groundwater 04:37 Monoculture and pesticides go hand in hand 04:58 Farmers forced to use expensive pesticides 06:10 Pesticides and cancer 07:59 Punjab's natural resources are so polluted 08:21 Depletion of groundwater 08:37 HYV seeds and water consumption 09:02 Irrigation trends - Before and After GR 10.27 Desertification of Punjab in 25 years 11:47 Farmers forced to burn stubble 14:16 Bye Crop Diversity, Welcome Malnutrition 17:36 Farming not profitable anymore 19:05 Swaminathan committee's report and MSP 20:15 Farmers are dying due to debts 22:11 Farmer incomes frozen for 4 decades 22:46 Farmer protest over the last 30 years 23:13 Flaws in the current farming model #farmslaws #farmersprotest THE NEXT JUMP Our new website unscripted.news is now live! Why? Because journalism is expensive. And while many newsrooms have cut back on their on-ground journalism, ushering in the age of TV news ‘debates’, that's simply not something we want to do. We want to be out in the field, reporting, researching, and doing work that we believe in, work that is not only time-consuming but increasingly more expensive as we attempt to scale up. Over the last five years, we have tried to do branded content, native brand messaging, a strategy that has worked successfully for ScoopWhoops’ other divisions, and as we’ve grown, trended, and influenced policy, brands have increasingly reached out to us for collaborations. However, what they ask of us, is something we aren’t willing to make, because the tone, rawness, lack of filter, irreverence, and political beliefs of each of our members is what makes us, us. We want to continue to report fearlessly on issues that are important to you and for that we need you. By subscribing to Unscripted you empower us to continue to do work that matters without us having to compromise on the kind of stories we want to do, personnel costs, or to the demands of corporate India. Go to unscripted.news for all the details and with your support, we can keep our journalism free from restraints. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- To get notified of all the new videos, subscribe - youtube.com/ScoopWhoopUnscripted Show us your love on Facebook - facebook.com/ScoopWhoopUnscripted Follow us on Instagram - instagram.com/scoopwhoopunscripted ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
